Archery – All Inclusive!

Colwyn Bowmen at Parkinson’s UK CYMRU conference

This week I attended the “Getting Back Together Conference” from Parkinson’s UK Cymru, in Llandudno with Kyffin, Johnathan and Nick to represent Colwyn Bowmen and the sport of archery.

Colwyn Bowmen have been working with the local Parkinson’s support group by providing the opportunity to take part in Archery, allowing attendees to build confidence and show themselves that archery is truly accessible.

I was also asked to give a brief talk to the attendees about archery as part of the conference. At first I thought it was going to be a fairly low key affair but when we got there it turned out that the other speakers had PowerPoint presentations and speaker notes etc. So I had a quick think, and then decided to wing it 😋

I decided to describe the effect that archery has had on me and drew parallels with the journey that many people have when confronted with an illness or injury that changes their perception of themselves or their physical ability in areas of their life. It turned out that I managed to make quite an impression and certainly got people talking later that day and the following day. I hope it inspires some of the other Parkinson’s clubs in attendance to approach their local archery clubs and benefit in the ways I have.
