Focusing on Focus

Focus and Repeat

I’ve been practicing a lot lately and really focusing on my Form, Release, and Mind Management for my Shot Cycle with my Coach (Nick).
It’s really interesting to me, how much the sport of archery is about Focus. You really need to ensure that you remain absolutely focused on repeatability:

  1. Stance – well, from the waist up for me 🙂
  2. Nocking the Arrow
  3. Attaching the Release Aid
  4. Ensuring my left hand is holding the bow consistently
  5. Shot Posture
  6. Set
  7. Set-Up
  8. Draw
  9. Anchor
  10. Aim Release
  11. Follow through
  12. Reset

Each of those steps could have a book written about them in turn but all you need to do is make sure you do it the same, EVERY TIME!

If you are shooting at a target 50m away, 1mm of difference or a slight change in my Shot Cycle could mean the difference between hitting the gold and missing the target completely.
